This project involved a full renovation and restyling of an upside-down holiday property in Cala Llombards, a stunning turquoise water cove in the SE of Mallorca.
For the living area upstairs, polished concrete flooring replaced the dated tiles, giving it an instant contemporary and cool feel. Walls were torn down to open up spaces, fitting a new kitchen where its reduced space called for white units and glass splashbacks for maximum light. Against this contemporary and functional backdrop, a set of exquisite vintage crystal decanters adorn the countertop. The owners are clearly partial to an eclectic mix of old and new; this is reflected in the living area, with its white leather chesterfield style sofa and chunky wooden coffee table on a chocolate leather tufted rug. A new wood burning stove was fitted in the corner and a gnarled driftwood standing lamp was placed behind the couch for an added touch of style and lighting. The dining space also features an old solid wood round table with modern white lacquered Louis XV chairs, crowned by a spider light fitting with vintage bulbs for extra warmth.
Downstairs are the sleeping quarters, all with new parquet flooring. The master bedroom has new fitted wardrobes, charcoal painted walls and feather lamps for ceiling and bedside. Another bedroom has been decorated in taupe with a touch of turquoise, and charcoal grey and soft aqua for the third.
The bathroom features grey slate tiles and walk-in shower with a bespoke Carrara marble basin and backlit oversized mirror.
Outside, the pièce de résistance is the rooftop terrace, offering magnificent 360º views of the cove below. The owners had fallen in love with an original boat-shaped daybed, but the surrounding walls on the terrace prevented them from enjoying the view from this angle; so a raised decking platform was purpose-built and problem solved.
The property boasts a small garden, where Justine created an outdoor chillout area among the lemon trees, with all-weather aluminium and rattan furniture. There is also an outdoor bathroom, which has been styled with a beautiful Moroccan mirror, black slate tiles and basin a petrified wood.
This property was purchased to become a calm haven for a busy German couple with a booming hairdressing business. They have since enjoyed their time here so much that called on Justine’s expertise once again to covert the garage into an extra guest bedroom/winter lounge.
And, a year ago, they purchased another property in the nearby village of S’Alqueria Blanca, which Justine was asked to fully renovate and furnish.
