Over a decade ago, I had the pleasure of completely redesigning this three-storey house in a gated coastal community in Mallorca. I was honoured when years later, the next generation brought me back—this time, the daughters of the original clients—ready to breathe new life into the space with a fresh perspective and their growing families in mind.
A Joyful Brief: Colourful, Relaxed and Family-Oriented
The brief was joyful and clear: maintain the colourful, holiday-home spirit, but update the look to reflect evolving tastes and a more relaxed, family-oriented lifestyle. Out went the bling, and in came colour drenching—a modern technique that brought depth and warmth to the living spaces. Many beloved pieces were kept and cleverly reimagined: the ultra-comfortable sofa was reupholstered, and the original Missoni curtains were seamlessly integrated into the new scheme, preserving a sense of continuity and nostalgia.
Designing for the Next Generation
With grandchildren now in the picture, function met fun throughout the home. I created a playful yet practical bedroom designed to sleep four little ones comfortably—perfect for sibling sleepovers or cousin bonding. Upstairs, a once-occasional guest room now features a full-size bed for more regular use.
A Terrace Built for Gatherings
Outdoors, the terrace was reconfigured for larger family gatherings. New, oversized lounge furniture adds comfort and flexibility, while bold floral floor cushions keep things fun for the younger crew.
A Project Full of Heart and History
This project was a true pleasure—a rare opportunity to revisit a past design and adapt it for the future, working with a new generation of clients who share their parents’ love of colour but wanted a fresh, trend-forward twist. The result is a bright, welcoming home that continues to grow with the family, full of heart, history, and holiday charm.
