They say simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, and this adage clearly comes true in this beautiful apartment in Bendinat, in SW Mallorca. This bright and modern apartment was bought by a Swiss couple, who asked Justine Knox to work her magic and transform it into a welcoming and elegant holiday home. The overall feel of the décor is warm minimalism: neutral tones without too many details or fuss, plus a touch of cheerful mandarin orange infused in strategic spots.

The project began with a renovation, removing a wall with a partition hatch between the kitchen and living space to create a bright open-plan living area. The kitchen is now a brand new contemporary space with matt ivory cabinets, glass splashbacks, Cosentino quartz surfaces and modern orange barstools.

The general palette of white, ivory and orange was carried through to the lounge area, with marine motif cushions on the white comfortable couches and orange featured in accessories and artwork. The fireplace was given a new plaster surround and an array of candles with a mirrored backdrop placed in the firebox adds a touch of warmth and sophistication.

Internal doors and handles were replaced throughout and the whole flat was rewired and replumbed. The original master bathroom was ripped out and now features a spacious walk-in shower with glass screen and a half-wall to separate the toilet area from the rest. Justine opted for a contemporary one piece Corian porcelain double-sink, elegant and easy to clean, mounted on bespoke white cabinets. Under-lights were placed below the basin furniture and fitted with a sensor for easy access at night.

The guest bathroom, also doubling up as a cloakroom, features a stone basin, stuccoed walls and a cleverly concealed corner shower.

The bedrooms were decorated in beachy tones. The master bedroom features a navy headboard, dark blue bedside lampshades and accessories, combined with turquoise and lime throw cushions, all against a background of white wood furniture, white bed linen and voile curtains. The marine feel of the guest bedroom is conveyed via the soft blue headboard, rope bedside lamps and artwork.

The flat boasts an outdoor terrace, which Justine furnished with white all-weather dining furniture and mandarin orange accessories. All in all, this is a holiday home where elegance and simplicity come together to create spaces filled with a cool and summery mood.
