In autumn 2024, Bruce and I embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that took us across the globe, each stop offering incredible experiences, breathtaking views, and treasured memories.
Travel has also played a major role in making 2024 unforgettable, beginning with a trip to Paris in January and concluding in Cambodia with our children as we transition into 2025. Looking back, my journeys with Bruce were filled with countless highlights, from reconnecting with loved ones to discovering new cultures and breathtaking landscapes. It’s experiences like these that inspire me, both personally and professionally, as I continue to create designs that reflect the beauty and harmony of the world around us.
Here are some of the highlights from our travels that I’d love to share with you.
USA

After a quick first stop in London and a catch-up with a lifelong friend, we continued to Seattle, expecting to arrive after a container load of furniture we had shipped from Mallorca. This would have been the final visit to Project Seattle to oversee the unpacking, placing and dressing of all the furniture and home accessories that we had lovingly selected for our first USA project. Working alongside the architects and contractors, selecting the materials and designing the layouts, kitchens and cabinetry had taken 18 months, and we were now at the final hurdle. But circumstances conspired against us, and we could not unpack the containers while we were there. Surprisingly, “container spotting” was an unexpectedly fascinating activity, offering unique insights into the city’s bustling port life. We took advantage of the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the local culture by attending a lively American football game—complete with cheerleaders, a marching band, and all the pageantry you’d expect. A spontaneous detour took us to Spokane, where I had the chance to visit a designer friend’s studio and home. It was inspiring to see their creative space and gain fresh ideas for my work.
Japan

Japan was a feast for the senses. From exploring vibrant food markets to witnessing the organised chaos of Shibuya Crossing, every moment was unforgettable. Meeting another designer friend added a personal touch to our journey, and highlights included the historic Gion district, a serene Kyoto riverboat ride, and climbing Monkey Mountain to take in spectacular views.
New Zealand
New Zealand welcomed us with awe-inspiring natural beauty. We reconnected with family, watched majestic orca whales and playful Hector’s dolphins, and experienced Maori culture through a traditional haka. Adventurous activities like exploring glaciers, caving, and gold panning added excitement, while geysers showcased nature’s raw power.
Australia

In Australia, we embraced the iconic sights and laid-back lifestyle. From the Sydney Opera House to the sandy shores of Bondi Beach, it was a dream come true. We loved our campervan journey from Sydney to Brisbane, enjoying solitary beaches (sometimes joined by pelicans) and unforgettable wildlife encounters with koalas and kangaroos. Visits with old friends and a road trip to Perth made the trip even more special, as did Rottnest Island’s stunning beaches and adorable quokkas.
Singapore

Singapore was a vibrant mix of architecture, culture, and cuisine. Highlights included the futuristic Gardens by the Bay, the colourful streets of Little India, and a rooftop dinner at Marina Bay Sands. Each neighbourhood had its charm, and the food was simply exceptional. I also chose an incredible hotel—a decision I’d happily make again. Though our time here was brief, it left a lasting impression.
Seychelles

We ended our journey in the Seychelles, staying on the stunning Alphonse Island. The beautifully designed communal areas and beach bungalows, complete with outdoor showers, were a perfect blend of luxury and nature. Days were spent diving with turtles, sharks, rays, and vibrant fish—my happy place—and relaxing with a good book. Our meals were a delight, featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients from talented chefs. Before heading home, we enjoyed three serene days on Mahe, the main island, soaking in the beauty of this island paradise.
Meanwhile, back on the island, Knox Design continued with me working remotely. A huge thank you to my team, both in the Homestore and my trades team who all continued to work on my projects with the excellent level of professionalism that we are known for!
Now Bruce and I are back on the island, refreshed and ready for 2025 and some incredibly exciting projects to come.
